This post will be a bit more of a journal entry than anything. Sarah and I have been taking some time to think and pray about what it looks like to be people of peace. Actually that isn’t true, God is remodeling our hearts, and I believe He is forming something deep within us that will last a while.

I was spending some time in the Sermon on the Mount a few weeks ago and it took me a while to move on from the beatitudes. Jesus opened up with a number of guiding principles. One of those was, “blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” I have been stuck with this question, “What would it look like to be someone who walks into a room and unity, peace, rest, and reconciliation just happens?”

The kingdom of heaven I think could be also described as the culture of heaven. It is where what the king wants to have happen happens. It is the unwritten rules and ways of citizens not from this world. So what would it look like to beat to a different drum and sow seeds of peace rather than discord, and reconciliation instead of fueling the flames of offense?

There are two types of people. People that promote disunity and strife, and people that promote peace. You might be thinking, what about the people that see discord and do nothing about it; they aren’t participating in it, are they? More and more I am coming to the conclusion that in God’s culture allowance is equal to approval (Rev. 2:20).

I want to be a person that chases after peace. I want to be one that fights for reconciliation no matter how messy it may be. This is what our God came and died for (Colossians 1:20), and this is what I want to die for.

  1. You are a man of peace, Jordan. You are a peacemaker and you represent others there in Cambodia. It is a privilege to partner with you!
