FAQs about this whole Cambodia thing

The purpose of this post is to provide some information on us going to Cambodia. These are some of the questions we have gotten thus far:

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

Simply, we sense God has invited us to join Him in what He is doing in the people of Cambodia. We want to be faithful to Jesus, thus when you add those two things together you get… us moving to Cambodia.

There is a lot of need in Cambodia. The country itself has been plagued by severe governmental corruption, PTSD, sexual exploitation, child sex slavery, lack of Gospel teaching, and other things.

We have a passion for freedom, especially among those exploited by the sex industry.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING WHEN YOU GET THERE?

Again there is a simple answer here, but we will give more than that. Ultimately we will be making disciples and spreading the Gospel as Jesus told His disciples to do in Matthew 28 before He left earth. This will be the general umbrella over all that we do.

We will be learning. The first 3 months especially, and until we feel comfortable, we will be learning Khmer, which is the Cambodian language. Through classes we hope to be fluent as soon as possible. We will be intentional about imersing ourselves in the culture. We will be in Cambodia as students of the people and learners of the culture.

We will be joining the effort to fight human sex trafficking. As we get aquainted with the culture, language, etc…, we will be networking, making relationships with people to provide support to the people already helping the victims of trafficking.

Some other things we wish to do are, host short term missionaries, medical nursing (Sarah), documentary photography (Jordan).

HOW CAN WE PARTNER WITH YOU?

Pray! It's a battle in the spiritual realm over the souls of God's people. Pray for us. I have a hunch Satan is not excited with what we are doing. Pray for the people of Cambodia. Pray for finances to be able to go.

WHY NOT THE PEACE CORPS?

Justice is about aligning our hearts with the only righteous Judge. The biggest injustice today is that we do not give God our hearts, minds and souls. God, however, will not make us do that, but He invites us to join Him in calling the people He created back to Him. The Peace Corps is not about Jesus.

You might ask, what does that have to do with trafficking, corruption, the poor, etc…? Exploitation, in its various forms, exemplifies oppression in the victims lives. They need to know that Jesus is not like that. It also reinstates to the oppressor that they can get away with exploitation for their personal gain. They need to know that Jesus will hold account everything they have ever done. Jesus has a personal message to every person. We want to tell them about Jesus.

WHEN ARE YOU MOVING?

We plan to go in early September or late August.

WHEN CAN WE GIVE?

As soon as you are able. We need funds for our preparation class in June. We have start-up costs that include, plane flights, visas, etc… We also would like a months worth of support before leave.
