“Don’t despise small beginnings.” I heard it loud and clear within in my spirit.
I was joking with Kelli Miller, about the size of the long term missions department being so small comparatively to other departments like the World Race or other departments. It was ironic because her, Sarah and myself made up half of the leadership team for worship this past Monday, and we are about half of the department. Our department as a whole makes up about 5% of the man power in the office.
Small things is what God specializes in. I am not saying God is small minded though.
How many times are we praying for something and we don’t see it come forth in any way? Or maybe we aren’t even praying for it, but we have a plan and it doesn’t work out because of undesired circumstances?
Many a times we are looking for the Niagara Falls of the world because that is what is amazing and visible. We rarely celebrate the small things in life. Smart marketing is about attention grabbers and the success stories, not about little victories or the steps along the way.
Think about this though. Niagara Falls started with evaporations of streams and rivers, and oak trees come from acorns.
Some times we are looking for the whole picture, but God is giving us a puzzle piece. In the world of instant ramen, split second wifi, credit cards, and text messaging, we lose patience easily.
God give us a little to steward with the goal of giving us the big picture, but some times we expect to be given the high profile financial investor position when we have never budgeted before.
In essence, the plan that God has for us is not always what is placed in our hands. What is it today that God has given you to be a steward of? What victories have you not celebrated because it’s not quite “the big picture” you imagined? God is doing something. I am confident in that. The excitement is figuring out what it is.
