This is the first post in a series I am writing. The Lord spoke to me about writing out the core lessons that He has taught me these last 8 years. I woke up one morning heavy on my heart thinking about what would be the core teachings I would pass on to those the Lord would ever give me to disciple.

This first teaching is about intimacy with Jesus. Below is what I wrote out the other night during a worship night here at the base in Guatemala:

The Lord created you for relationship. You are the only creature that He decided to breathe into. No other creature has what you have. The angels rebelled, God did not blink. Adam rebelled and God said not so fast. He chased us, and throughout the story of God interacting with people, throughout all of the Old Testament and New it is about God coming down and making a way to dwell with us.

When God had it set forth in the beginning, it was Him and man in the garden. Man did not just fit into Gods plan of how things worked on earth. Man and God ruled together, calling forth the purpose of animals. God and Adam were partners.

God saw the dust. The dust was completely obedient. The wind, the Spirit of God blew the dust wherever it wished. The dust was never defiant. But at that sight God saw something greater. He bent down, used His hands, saw destiny in something no other creature saw destiny, and He cupped His hands holding the dust and He blew. I wonder if God, when holding that dust felt a heartbeat? Did He see a hair color, a tone of voice, a sense of humor, a temperament? (Genesis 2)

For no other creature did He breathe His own breath. He has desire. He loves. He saw relationship. He saw friendship. He saw sons and daughters, nations, cultures.

You are doing well. You are acting in wisdom when you commune with God. To no other person did Jesus say, “this one thing will never be taken away from you.” (Luke 10) Jesus looked into the eyes of Mary and He said yes! Your ministry, your finances, nothing will remain with you in the new kingdom, but one thing! You sitting at my feet, hanging on my words, loving on Me. It never will be taken from you. Other things moth and rust destroy, but intimacy with God, never.

Wasn’t it David, the cherished David, who said, “one thing have I desired, to gaze upon the beauty of The Lord, and to inquire in His temple?” (Psalm 27) There was nothing that David lived for apart from communing with The Lord. He had everything. He was king, he conquered nations, he sat in his palace and yet nothing grabbed His attention more than God. From the days of being the runt in the field with only sheep, to the days of reigning in Jerusalem, it was God who caught His attention. This man after Gods own heart, he was living in His destiny. (Acts 13:22)

In life, family, ministry or whatever, God always wants your heart. Whatever life looks like, your vision must be intimacy with Jesus. It is what you were created for. God’s eyes of fire are for you. Take the advice of the Scriptures. God is passionately in love with you and there is no limit to which He will cease from chasing you. He will make you miserable if He had to. Your heart, your love is what He breathes for.
